Cleaning broiled on oil off of engine internals

what cuts the nasty stain left by burnt on oil after years? For example, ugly dark-brown varnished upwardly rocker artillery on a 302 ford that saw very few oil changes........? Thanks a ton ahead of time..........paint thinners, solvents of several types, have been tried....and zilch cuts the stain......

Gasket remover. Especially the older (high VOQ) spray versions. Just fifty-fifty the new castor on stuff will work. Wear gloves.
Apply liberally. Wait 10 minutes. Apply castor to remove. Rinse with parts washer fluid - mineral spirit based or water based.

Take them to an engine shop and ask they be run through the tumbler. Usually not much dollars and yous don't have to breathe caustic fumes, ruin your fingers or spend hours trying to get in the curves.

FWIW, a SBF engine kit, containing new rockers, are so cheap, we seldom clean them.

royal power. 5 gallon bucket 27.00 at autozone. let parts soak in the bucket at full strength for a day. rinse with water. works well on the carbon on piston tops also. accept to soak them for a couple of days. rinses right off

I tried Easy Off on a set of forged pistons that had burnt on oil on them. While it did loosen the oil so it could exist removed, it really etched the aluminum to where I didn't feel comfy using them later.

Soak for a few hours in a ten-15% solution (2lb for 3 gallons)of potassium hydroxide (potash) and water its a little more active if you utilize fifty/50 methanol and water but non recommended if you haven't had feel in chemical treatment. Parts need to be done thoroughly and coated with oil or wd40 or such immediately. USE Rubber GLOVES and in a WELL VENTILATED AREA don't inhale vapors straight either. This is the best I have found but be extremely cautious if you are not familiar with chemical handling. This is similar to the caustic soda that the car shops used to soak engine blocks and parts in I just like the potassium over the sodium hydroxide the parts come out a niggling cleaner with less staining This is as well like to the buckets of carburetor cleaner nosotros used to get years ago as a matter of fact use the same circumspection that you used to utilize with the carburetor soak. as well mix past slowly adding potash in while sturring or information technology will clump and overheat. Don't soak aluminum parts very long if at all make a weaker solution for aluminum parts.

I use lacquer thinner. It will clean what other solvents will non. use skillful safe gloves and avert inhaling fumes.

I thought I was wrong once simply I was mistaken...

Soak it in simple greenish overnight... Information technology will come off with a toothbrush
Them geo metro forum guys have been swearing by information technology cleaning and reusing pistons that take been glued to the piston rings with gunk

As I'm approaching xl,I still remember I'm 20. What the hell is incorrect with me?

Piece of cake Off and other stuff containing lye will etch aluminum. Only lye is safe on ferrous metals.Weren't the old style "hot tanks" a lye solution? If you're a back woods guy you can make lye by filtering water through wood ashes.

Damned stuff will take the skin off your hands!!

Berrymanns #12 carb cleaner in the gallon can is about the same stuff as long equally its not from Cali!! Cali'due south formula is unlike than the balance of the states if not mistaken? Its been a while since I chosen Berrymanns and apartment asked them.

Berrymanns carb cleaner has been reformulated you cant become the old formula over the parts counter anymore what you get now is water-based aqueous cleaning solutions that has very depression VOC rating
